Where is BYU University?
Brigham Young University, or BYU, is a private research university in Provo, Utah. It is the flagship higher education institution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
Founded in 1875, the university serves more than 1.2 million people worldwide through its undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. Founded in 1971, Performing Arts Management represents all of the official performing groups of Brigham Young University. It facilitates all aspects of scheduling, traveling, and promoting these performing groups on their journeys worldwide.
Since its inception, Performing Arts Management has had the opportunity to send several of the university’s most acclaimed ensembles on multiple tours throughout the world. These tours have allowed the BYU Music, Dance, and Theatre communities to reach new audiences, create enduring relationships, and foster artistic excellence internationally.
For example, in 1979 BYU performing groups were invited to China on the first-ever formal diplomatic visit between the United States and the country. The groups faced a number of difficulties during the preparation process.
In spite of these challenges, the teams did not waver in their faith or commitment to their mission. With help from the Chinese government, they were able to overcome these obstacles and bring their unique style of art to hundreds of audiences in China. This trip was one of the most successful of all BYU performing groups’ tours, and it was an important step toward developing relations with China.
